Disposables win on convenience. Pod systems win on cost. How much they win by surprises most people, so here are the actual numbers using UAE prices.
The comparison
Take a moderate daily vaper. Assume a 20,000-puff disposable at around AED 45 realistically lasts about a month (see our guide on why puff counts overstate). Now compare that with a refillable pod kit.

Where the pod system really wins
Run the same numbers for a heavier vaper getting through two devices a month, and it flips hard:
- Disposables: ~AED 90/month, ~AED 1,080/year, every year
- Pod system: ~AED 100/month in liquid and coils, plus the one-off device — but a 30ml bottle at AED 40 lasts far longer than the equivalent in disposables, so realistically closer to ~AED 70/month
The gap widens further if you buy larger e-liquid bottles. A 60ml or 120ml bottle from E-Juice costs far less per millilitre than 30ml.
What you give up
A pod system is not free of effort:
- You have to refill it, which means carrying a bottle
- You have to change coils every 7–14 days, and prime them properly or you burn them
- You have to charge it — though most high-puff disposables now need charging too
- You need to match the right pod to your device, and they are not cross-compatible
That is maybe five minutes a week. Whether that is worth a few hundred dirhams a year is a genuine personal call.
The other factor: waste
Every disposable contains a lithium battery that gets thrown away after one use. At two a month that is 24 batteries a year from one person. A pod system uses one battery for a year or more. If that matters to you, it is a real point in the pod system column — and either way, please dispose of devices at a battery or e-waste collection point rather than in household waste.
