A 20,000-puff disposable will not give you 20,000 puffs. Neither will a 40,000 or an 80,000. This is not a scandal and it is not specific to any one brand — it is how the number is measured. Once you understand the measurement, the labels become useful again.
How the number is produced
Manufacturers calculate puff counts in a lab using a machine that takes short, uniform puffs — typically around 2 seconds, at a consistent airflow, with no pauses and no boost mode. Divide the total e-liquid volume by the amount consumed per machine puff and you get the number on the box.
Real people do not vape like a machine. A satisfying draw is usually 3 to 5 seconds. If your average puff is twice the lab puff, you get roughly half the advertised count. That is the entire explanation.
What actually eats your puffs
- Puff length. The single biggest factor. A 4-second draw uses roughly twice the liquid of a 2-second one.

The better number to compare
Puff count is a marketing figure. E-liquid volume in millilitres is a physical one, and it is far more comparable between brands. If two devices both hold 20ml, they contain the same amount of liquid regardless of whether one claims 20,000 puffs and the other 30,000.
Battery capacity matters too, but less than it used to — most high-puff devices are now USB-C rechargeable, so the battery outlasts the liquid rather than limiting it.
What this means when you buy
Do not pay a large premium purely for a bigger number on the box. Work out roughly what you use, apply the 50-70% adjustment, and buy the size that matches.
